Since this is the content and copywriting forum, I will focus my reply on the question of increasing your rating/ranking in search engines to factors related to that.
The three things most important regarding your content are:
1. quantity - you want at least 200 words
2. quality - make your prose convincingly relevant to your target keyphrase(s). This has to do with BOTH the placement of your keyphrase(s) AND the context of words and phrases throughout your content supporting your keyphrase(s) (i.e. latent semantic indexing or themes).
3. code/content ratio - use external javascript, external css, xhtml and css to reduce the amount of code in your page and raise the beginning of your readable content as high up toward your <body> tag and top of the source-view as possible. |

| Because one of the sites has more important links pointing to it. If a site with high page rank links to your site you will receive some of that page rank. If you link to a site that has less or no page rank you will get less or no page rank transferred from your page . This is why two sites with simiilar content may have different google ranking. |
