Thanks for the info Bracey and Edddi!

I am a little confused on Eddi's comment though! Newbie here who is just trying to do the honest and right things so forgive me my questions.

Bracey, can you shoot me an icq message when you get a chance.

So far I haven't run into a hitbot that's been nice enough to send a non standard (i.e. look like anything other then a normal surfer) HTTP_USER_AGENT while making their dumptruck deliveries... but looking over the agents listed, that use of Mod_Rewrite is for protecting a premium/membership site (AND IT WILL DO A PRETTY THOROUGH JOB of blocking surfers with site extractors and the spammer factories with email addy collectors.

Guess I don't have issues with perps who want to download my TGPs for the little thumbs to rub one out, as they still have to go back on-line to get to the full gallery. Spammers get a somewhat different experience... Twisted Evil

One other thought... Mod_Rewrite tends to be a bit server intense and there are less processor/resource demanding alternatives.

Ouch.

You raise an interesting point - autosignup scripts need to get their target URLs from somewhere, and while blocking harvesters from collecting this data in advance is different than blocking hitbots, it's (IMO) equally important. Being proactive rather then reactive in dealing with the problem makes the most long-term sense. Very Happy

signup URLs is pretty standard, if you know basic trade scripts (or most used scripts and their versions), you know all that URLs. Only thing you need is an inserting domain you wish. While having a list of trade domains (actually there are a lot of trader databases that could be leached) autosignup script can easily perform trade page scanning for every domain.

Sorry for the delay Vendzilla..... man, you are right down the street from me! I am in Redding area. Not for long though! We just sold our place here and purchase a big ole 50 acre farm in Kentucky!

God, I go from living in San Diego, to Porn Valley while my girl and I were in the biz, then we retired, move to Redding which is country enough for me, then the girls decide its time to move out of Cali to Kentucky! God help me!

All I care about is getting HS net connection and I am good to go! They made sure I had that before buying! LOL

Cheers neighbor!
