I'm totaly new to this.. but was just wondering how LL's (like penisbot) make money if all they do is link to free sites?
or is there something that I'm missing here?

A TGP lists galleries. (1 single page gallery)
A Link List lists free sites (typically 1 warning page, 1 main page, 2 galleries) |

Listing freesites isn't all they do.
Paid adverts/banners etc.
Selling top listing positions.
Selling traffic.
Listing their own freesites or sponsor hosted freesites.
Paid submittal accounts.
I can't think of any other ways off-hand but I'm sure there are loads more. |

when you get a lot of people visiting to your LL
you can put up a donate button and surfers that go to your LL every day will make a sizable donation

well, let's just put it this way...I've run my LL for about 2 yrs now and I do see sales, but freesites are still way ahead for # of sales. It's not just uniques/amount of traffic, I think bookmarkers and return visitors play a big part in it. It just takes a huge amount of time (and effort) to build that up.
Sales would come from sponsor hosted freesites, advertising, banners, reviews, etc. |

Wow, you guys are great! I want to thank everybody for all of the replies... I asked about LL's because I'm in the process of developing a site full of my own links, but was at a loss as to how to attract surfers. Right now I'm relying pretty heavily on adwords, and have had some success on this front, but obviously, I'd rather not have to pay for traffic. I've looked at Penis Bot, Hoes, and couldn't figure out how they did it. Now I think I have a better understanding of their business model, so again, thanks.
Just out of curiousity, if I were to open up my list so that people could submit and list their "free sites", what kind of features would you be looking for? Since I haven't started writing the script surrounding this process (and have no intention of buying one) it would be cool to know what you guys are looking for (even features you haven't seen at other LL's).
